Damon Leslie is the founder of TradeCert. He started the site after seeing how hard it is to get a straight answer to a simple question: what does it actually take to get licensed in a trade in my state? State licensing board websites are inconsistent, hard to navigate, and frequently out of date — so he built the reference he wished existed.

Damon researches and writes TradeCert's reporting using government agencies, licensing boards, statutes, administrative codes, registered apprenticeship records, and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. He is not a licensed tradesperson, and TradeCert does not provide legal or professional advice.

In June 2026, he removed the site's generated licensing archive from search after identifying repeated language, overgeneralized license structures, and mechanically refreshed dates. The archive is being reviewed page by page under the site's editorial policy.

How the guides are researched

• Primary sources only. Requirements, fees, and renewal rules come from official state licensing boards, not from other content sites.
• BLS wage data. Salary figures use the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OES) program, cited with the data vintage.
• Dated reviews. Dates change only when the content and its underlying sources are checked together.
• Corrections welcome. Errors reported with an official source are prioritized — see the contact page.
